About Kuchaman Fort
A hill fort above Kuchaman with 32 bastions, begun in the 9th century and held by the Meratia Rathores for most of its history. The Meena Mahal inside is one of the finest mirror rooms in Rajasthan, glass and gold on every surface. The fort is run as a heritage hotel now, so a day visit needs asking, but the climb up through the ten gates and the view over the salt country repay it.
What to see and do
- Meena Mahal mirror work
- Ten gates on the climb up
- Sheesh Mahal and Sunehri Burj
- Frescoed jharokhas over the town
- Views towards Sambhar salt lake
