About Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary
The only sanctuary in Andhra Pradesh with a population of Asian elephants, which walked in from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in the 1980s and settled in these dry deciduous hills between Palamaner and Kuppam. The sanctuary covers about 358 sq km along the Kaundinya and Kaigal streams; Kaigal falls on the Palamaner to Kuppam road is the easiest spot to visit and is popular on weekends. Take permission from the forest range office at Palamaner for the interior; wild elephants cross the roads here, so drive slowly and do not walk in at dusk.
