About Kalibangan
A Harappan city on the left bank of the dry Ghaggar, excavated between 1961 and 1969 by B. B. Lal and B. K. Thapar after Luigi Tessitori noticed the mounds in 1917. Below the Harappan town lies an earlier settlement with the oldest ploughed field found anywhere, and a set of fire altars. The mounds themselves are low and fenced; the ASI museum at the site, opened in 1983, holds the finds and is the reason to stop. It is closed on Fridays.
