About Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta

The highest hill inside Bandipur Tiger Reserve, named for the mist that hangs over it much of the year. A Venugopalaswamy temple built in 1315 under the Hoysala king Ballala III stands on the summit, and the grasslands around it look down on the forest and the Nilgiris. Private vehicles are not allowed up the hill; a forest department bus runs from the base near Hangala village. It is 20 km from Gundlupet, and a morning visit gives the best chance of clear views.
