About Bandipur Tiger Reserve
One of the first Project Tiger reserves of 1973, covering dry deciduous forest between Mysuru and the Nilgiris. The forest department runs bus and jeep safaris from the reception centre on the Ooty highway in the morning and late afternoon, with tiger, elephant, gaur and dhole among the regular sightings. The highway through the park is closed to traffic from 9 pm to 6 am. Bandipur is about 80 km from Mysuru and joins Mudumalai in Tamil Nadu to the south.
