About Hemkund Sahib

A Sikh gurdwara and a glacial lake at 4,329 metres, surrounded by seven snow peaks, where Guru Gobind Singh is believed to have meditated. The walk is 6 km uphill from Ghangaria, steep with steps, and many pilgrims take ponies. It opens around late May or June and closes in early October. The oxygen is thin, so go slowly and rest on the way. Registration is compulsory.
