About Global Vipassana Pagoda
A gold-domed meditation hall on the Gorai creek, built in the shape of the Shwedagon in Myanmar as a thank you for keeping Vipassana alive when it had died out in India. The inner dome spans about 85 metres with no pillars holding it up, which makes it the largest structure of its kind in the world, built entirely of interlocking stone with no steel. It holds relics of the Buddha. You reach it by ferry, which is half the pleasure.
