Gilbert Hill is a sheer-sided plug of solid basalt left behind by the Deccan Traps eruptions around 66 million years ago. Only two comparable formations are known, both in the United States. A stairway cut into the flank leads to a small temple and garden on top, with Mumbai on every side.
