About Ganagapur Dattatreya Temple
Ganagapur, on the Bhima river in Afzalpur taluk, is where Sri Narasimha Saraswati, revered as the second avatar of Dattatreya, lived for about 23 years in the 15th century. The Nirguna Padukas he left behind are worshipped in the main temple. Devotees bathe at the Sangam of the Bhima and Amarja rivers, do parikrama, and take madhukari, begging food from five houses, as a vow. Datta Jayanti in December is the biggest festival. The temple is about 40 km west of Kalaburagi.
