About Chausa
Two things happened at this village on the Ganga near the Karmanasa mouth. In June 1539 Sher Khan, later Sher Shah Suri, smashed the army of Humayun here, and the emperor escaped by swimming the river with the help of a water-carrier named Nizam. And in 1931 a hoard of 18 Jain bronzes of the Kushan and Gupta periods, the oldest Jain metal images known, was dug up here; it is now in the Patna Museum. Nothing marks either.
What to see and do
- Site of the 1539 battle where Humayun nearly drowned
- The Chausa hoard of early Jain bronzes, now in Patna Museum
- Ganga and the Karmanasa confluence
- Quiet riverside village
