About Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary
A 78 sq km sanctuary of sal and dry deciduous forest on the Vindhyan scarp, notified in 1957. That year three Asiatic lions from Gir were released here in the first attempt to give the species a second home; they bred to about eleven and had vanished by 1970. Today it has leopard, sloth bear, blackbuck, chinkara and nilgai, and good birds around the reservoir. There is no organised safari; you drive in on the forest road to the falls and the dam.
