About Chandragiri Fort
The last capital of the Vijayanagara kings, 15 km from Tirupati, where the grant for Fort St George at Madras was signed in 1639. The Raja Mahal, an Indo Saracenic palace built without timber, now houses an ASI museum of bronzes, sculptures and Vijayanagara artefacts; the Rani Mahal stands beside it and the fort walls climb the granite hill behind. There is an evening sound and light show, and the museum is closed on Fridays.
