About Anjanadri Hill
Anjanadri Hill near Anegundi is held by tradition to be the birthplace of Hanuman, son of Anjana, and the whole area is identified with Kishkinda, the monkey kingdom of the Ramayana. About 575 steps climb to a small whitewashed Anjaneya temple on top, with views over the boulder fields, the Tungabhadra and the Hampi ruins across the river. Monkeys are bold, so keep food packed away. Hanuman Jayanti in December brings very large crowds.
