About Anegundi
Anegundi, across the Tungabhadra from Hampi, is older than Vijayanagara and was the first seat of the dynasty before the capital moved south of the river. It is still a living village with the Gagan Mahal palace, the Ranganatha temple, a hill fort and Navabrindavana island where nine Madhva saints are buried. Pampa Sarovar, one of the five sacred lakes of Hindu tradition, is 2 km away with a Lakshmi temple beside it. Reach it by road over the bridge near Bukkasagara or by coracle from the Hampi side.
