About Yumthang Valley

A broad river valley in North Sikkim at about 3,600 metres, with the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary around it. Spring turns the slopes red and pink, usually in late March and April, and it is snow bound in winter. The base is Lachung, 24 km away, and you need a North Sikkim permit, which most operators arrange. A hot spring is by the river. Yumthang is the usual daytrip from Lachung, with Zero Point further up.
