About Walong War Memorial

The Lohit valley town where the Battle of Walong was fought in October and November 1962, the one place in that war where an Indian brigade counter-attacked and held the Chinese for nearly a month before being ordered back. The war memorial with its plain inscription stands above the river; the helipad, the army lines and a hot spring across the Lohit make up the rest of the town. It is the base for Dong and Kibithu.
