About Soron (Sukarkshetra)
The Sukarkshetra of the Puranas, where Vishnu as the boar Varaha is said to have killed Hiranyaksha, and one of the oldest tirthas on the Ganga, though the river has moved and the Hari ki Pauri ghat now sits on a channel called the Burhi Ganga. Families bring ashes here for immersion. Soron also has a strong claim to be the birthplace of Tulsidas, recognised by the state in 2012. Kartik Purnima is the big bathing day.
