About Shahjahanpur Fort and Old City
Founded in 1647 by the Afghan brothers Diler Khan and Bahadur Khan under Shah Jahan, who gave it his name, on the land between the Garra and Khannaut rivers. The fort survives as fragments of wall and gates in the old city. The town is best known now for its Holi, when a Laat Saheb, a man dressed as an Englishman, is paraded on a bullock cart and pelted with shoes, a tradition going back to the Nawabi days.
