About Rayadurg Fort
A hill fort on the Karnataka border, built by Vijayanagara chiefs and later taken by the Bijapur sultans, the Marathas and Tipu Sultan before passing to the British in 1799. The hill carries Jain Tirthankara images and temples cut into the rock, ruined gateways and a tank; the town below is the western edge of Anantapur district. The climb is exposed, so go in the early morning in the cooler months.
