About Pothia Tea Gardens
Bihar's only tea grows here, on the flat land of Pothia and Thakurganj blocks next to the Bengal border, planted mostly by small growers since the 1990s. The leaf largely goes to factories across the border, and the state has been pushing a Kishanganj tea brand and GI tag. The gardens are pretty rather than dramatic, and the plucking season is the time to walk through them.
What to see and do
- Tea bushes on the Bihar plains
- Small-grower gardens around Pothia
- Plucking season, roughly March to November
- The Bengal border a few km east
