About Mulbekh Monastery and Maitreya
A village on the highway known for a 9 metre high rock carved Maitreya Buddha, which stands beside the road and is thought to date back to the 8th century. Above the village is a cliff top monastery. The mix of Buddhist and Islamic culture in the area is unusual and interesting. It makes a nice halt between Kargil and Lamayuru.
