About Mechuka
A wide flat valley at 1829 m on the Siyom, 180 km and a long day of hill road beyond Aalo, with Memba villages and their gompas on one side and the snow line close above. The 400-year-old Samten Yongcha monastery stands on a hill outside town. The Adventure Festival in November brings paragliding and bikers for a few days; the rest of the year it is quiet, cold and slow. Count three days each way from Guwahati.
