About Panakala Narasimha Swamy Temple, Mangalagiri
Mangalagiri, between Vijayawada and Guntur, has two Narasimha temples. The Panakala Narasimha Swamy temple is half way up the hill and is known for its offering of panakam, jaggery water, which is poured into the mouth of the deity and half of it comes back, without ants ever gathering. The Lakshmi Narasimha temple at the foot of the hill has an 11 storey gopuram built by the Zamindar of Vasireddy in the 19th century. Steps and a ghat road both reach the hill shrine, which closes in the afternoon.
