About Loktak Lake and Sendra Island

The largest freshwater lake in the north east of India, about 40 km from Imphal, dotted with phumdis, floating mats of vegetation and soil, on which fishermen build their huts. Boat rides go through the floating islands and the viewpoint at Sendra Island gives the best sunset view. The lake is a source of power, water and food for thousands of people. Go in the cooler months, early in the day for mist and birds.
