About Likir Monastery

A 14th century monastery famous for its huge, gilded Maitreya statue on the hill above the village. The hillside has a large prayer hall and a museum with old thangkas, drums and masks. The nearby Yangthang is a good start for short treks, and the village has pleasant homestays and a lovely view of the Himalaya.
