About Lamayuru Monastery and Moonland
One of the oldest and largest monasteries of Ladakh, perched on a spur above a moon-like landscape of eroded clay and rock. The surroundings, called Moonland, look like another planet. The monastery has fine old murals, and a short walk leads to a Buddha statue and a view over the valley. It is on the Srinagar to Leh highway, and is a popular overnight stop.
