The gateway town on the Assam edge, a few kilometres from Silapathar railway station, with an army cantonment, a check gate where the ILP is looked at, and the road climbing away towards Basar and Aalo. Malinithan is on the hill at the edge of town; otherwise it is a place to fuel up, eat and move on.
