About Khanderi & Underi

Shivaji raised Khanderi in 1679 in the teeth of both the Siddis and the British, and Underi was the Siddi answer built directly opposite. Khanderi is one of the eleven Maharashtra forts inscribed by UNESCO in 2025 as the Maratha Military Landscapes of India. A working lighthouse still operates on the island.
