About Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary
About 400 sq km of sal forest, grassland and river on the Nepal border, part of the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve and joined to Bardia in Nepal by a forest corridor. The Girwa river is the point: a boat safari from the Girijapuri barrage passes gharial hauled out on the sandbars, mugger, and Gangetic dolphins surfacing in the deep channel. Tiger and swamp deer are in the forest. Open 15 November to 15 June.
