About Kalinjar Fort
A hill fort on the Vindhya scarp that the Chandelas made their strongest post, and where Sher Shah Suri died in 1545 when a gunpowder store blew up during his siege. Seven gates climb the hill and the Neelkanth temple sits in a cutting below the top, with a great Bhairava carved on the rock beside it. Allow half a day and start early; the climb is real and the plateau is large.
