About Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary

Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary, set up in 1994 over about 80 sq km of boulder hills and scrub, is one of the few reserves in India made for the sloth bear. Forest staff smear jaggery on the rocks below a watchtower in the afternoon, so bears come out to feed and can be watched from a distance without disturbing them. Leopards, star tortoises, peafowl and painted spurfowl also live here. The gate opens around 2 pm and the best sightings are between 4 and 6 pm. It is about 30 km from Hospet.
