About National Chambal Sanctuary, Sahson

The Chambal is the cleanest big river in north India and the sanctuary along it holds most of the wild gharial left in the world, plus mugger, Gangetic dolphin, Indian skimmer and eight species of turtle. Boats go out from Sahson and Bhareh on the Etawah side from November to March; permits come from the forest office. Mornings are best, when the gharial haul out on the sandbanks.
