About Bela Pratapgarh
Bela is the district town and takes its name from the Bela Devi temple on the bank of the Sai, one of the older Devi shrines in this part of Awadh. The district itself is named for the 17th century fort of Raja Pratap Bahadur, whose descendants still hold the estate house in the old town. Neither is a set piece; together they make a fair two hour stop.
