About Bawani Imli
A tamarind tree at Khajuha where 52 freedom fighters led by Jodha Singh Ataiya were hanged on 28 April 1858 and left there for weeks as a warning. The tree still stands behind railings and a memorial, with a gathering each 28 April. It is on the Kanpur to Fatehpur highway near Bindki and takes half an hour, but it is the most important 1857 site in the district.
