About Banihal Pass and Jawahar Tunnel
The pass over the Pir Panjal range that links the Jammu region and the Kashmir valley, with the 2.85 km Jawahar Tunnel that was opened in 1956 below it. Before the tunnel, snow shut the road for long spells. The slopes above are green in summer and white in winter, and the stretch has fine views of the valley as you come down into Kashmir.
