About Bakhira Bird Sanctuary
The largest natural floodplain wetland in eastern UP, about 29 sq km of open water and reed, a sanctuary since 1990 and a Ramsar site since 2021. Winter brings greylag and bar-headed geese, ferruginous duck, pintail and coot in tens of thousands, and local boatmen will take you out. About 45 km from Gorakhpur on the Basti road.
