About Alandi, Dnyaneshwar Samadhi
Dnyaneshwar wrote the Dnyaneshwari, the Marathi commentary on the Gita that reshaped devotion in this part of India, and then in 1296, at twenty one, he sat down in a chamber at Alandi and had it sealed behind him. Warkaris hold that he is still there in sanjeevan samadhi rather than dead. Every year his palkhi leaves from here for Pandharpur and hundreds of thousands walk behind it.
What to see and do
- The sealed samadhi chamber
- The ajan tree beside it, tied to the Dnyaneshwar story
- Indrayani river ghats
- The palkhi departure, usually June, and the crowd that follows it
