About Vidyapati Dham
The Maithili poet Vidyapati is said to have come here to die on the bank of the Ganga in the fifteenth century, and the legend has the river shifting course to reach him. The village, once Bajitpur, was renamed for him, and a Shiva temple marks the spot. A Kartik Purnima fair and an annual Vidyapati festival are the times it comes alive; on other days it is a quiet riverside shrine.
