About Umiam Lake (Barapani)
A large lake formed by a dam on the Umiam river, about 15 km from Shillong on the highway to Guwahati. A water sports complex runs kayaking, boating and sailing, and there are sunset viewpoints and small cafes along the shore. It is an easy stop for people driving between Guwahati and Shillong, and the lake turns misty in the early morning.
