About Sualkuchi Silk Village
A weavers' town on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, around 35 km from Guwahati, known for Assam silk, including golden muga, white pat and warm eri. Looms click in many homes and small workshops, and you can watch the work and buy mekhela chadors, stoles and fabric directly from the weavers. Ask about the silk type before buying, and look for the silk mark. Pair it with Hajo or Kamakhya for a day trip.
