About Sonauli Border
The busiest crossing into Nepal from UP, facing Bhairahawa, about 95 km north of Gorakhpur. Indians walk across on photo ID with no visa. The reason most travellers come is Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, roughly 25 km beyond the border and an easy day trip by shared jeep or taxi. The town itself is trucks, money changers and dhabas.
