About Raza Library

The library of the Nawabs of Rampur, begun by Faizullah Khan in 1774 and housed since 1957 in Hamid Manzil, the Indo-European palace inside the fort. It holds some 17,000 manuscripts in Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit and Urdu, a seventh-century Quran said to be in the hand of Ali, and about 5,000 Mughal and Rajput miniatures. The Durbar Hall alone is worth the trip. Only a fraction is on display, but that fraction is remarkable.
