About Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary
A 225-hectare lake right on the Kanpur-Lucknow highway, 45 km from Lucknow, notified in 1984 and renamed for Chandra Shekhar Azad. From November the water fills with pintail, shoveler, gadwall and bar-headed geese, and sarus cranes nest around the edges. Watchtowers, a short boat ride, and a deer park. Water levels drop badly in dry years.
