About Naneghat

A man-made pass cut through the Sahyadri crest around 2,000 years ago by the Satavahanas, used as a toll route between the Konkan ports and Junnar. A large stone urn where tolls were collected still sits in the cave, along with the earliest known inscriptions using Indian numerals. In strong monsoon wind, the waterfall at the pass blows back upwards.
