About Kedarnath Temple
One of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the four Chota Char Dham, a stone temple at 3,583 metres below the Kedarnath peaks, beside the Mandakini. The trek from Gaurikund is about 16 km and takes most people a full day, or you can ride a mule or take a helicopter from Phata or Guptkashi. Registration on the Uttarakhand portal is compulsory. The temple opens around Akshaya Tritiya in April or May and closes after Bhai Dooj; in winter the deity is worshipped at Ukhimath. The weather turns fast, so carry rain gear and warm clothes.
