The most popular sea resort of Bengal, about 185 km from Kolkata, with a long, shallow, gently sloping beach, hotels at every budget and a busy seafood market. It is a weekend favourite and gets crowded on holidays. Quieter beaches such as New Digha and Udaipur are nearby. Take care when swimming, as the tide can come in quickly, and avoid the monsoon and cyclone season.
