About Deepor Beel
A large freshwater wetland south west of Guwahati and a Ramsar site, one of the best places for birds near any big city in India. Thousands of migratory birds gather from November to February, along with local species such as the greater adjutant stork. The edge of the wetland is by the road and the railway line, so go early, bring binoculars, and keep the visit short on weekday mornings for peace. A landfill at one end is a concern, so use the main viewing points.
