About Charaideo Moidams

The first capital of the Ahom kings and the site of their burial mounds, called moidams, 28 km from Sivasagar. The grassy mounds, each covering a vaulted chamber, are often called the pyramids of Assam. In 2024 the moidams were added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. A small museum explains the Ahom rites. Go in the cool months, and wear walking shoes for the mounds.
