About Jama Masjid Budaun
Built in 1223 by Iltutmish, who had been governor of Budaun before he took the Delhi throne, this is one of the oldest surviving mosques in India and is usually described as its third largest. It stands on the old fort mound in the middle of the town, a plain, massive brick and stone structure with a great dome. Budaun was a Sultanate provincial capital for centuries and the old town has tombs to match.
