About Belur Math
The headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission, on the west bank of the Hooghly, founded by Swami Vivekananda. The main temple, built in 1938, mixes Hindu, Buddhist, Christian and Islamic design ideas. The grounds are calm and neat, with a museum and the places linked to Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda. It closes in the afternoon, so go in the morning or late afternoon, and reach by boat from Dakshineswar if you can.
